Just what is Go Superlambananas?

Go Superlambananas is a mass public appeal art event. It will comprise of over 100 Superlambanana sculptures which will be displayed on the streets of Liverpool from 16 June - 25 August 2008.

What are the Superlambananas made of?

The Superlambananas are made of fibreglass and are approximately 180cm tall. They are finished in a primer before delivery to the artists. When placed on the streets they are attached to a concrete base.

What happens if the Superlambananas are damaged?

Go Superlambananas has a team of “Super-Vets” who will look after and reinstate any Superlambananas that may become damaged.

Why Superlambananas?

Why not! Go Superlambananas is all about the art. Liverpool’s SuperLambBanana is a widely recognised iconic sculpture and its shape and contours provide the perfect surface on which to work.

Who created the SuperLambBanana?

The SuperLambBanana was created by Japanese artist Taro Chiezo for the Arts Transpenine in 1998. The replica sculptures were moulded by Wild in Art’s Creative Director Chris Wilkinson.

Does it cost money to see the Superlambananas?

No, it is an entirely free event.

Who are the artists?

Anyone. Go Superlambananas aims to showcase the artistic talent of Liverpool and artists are invited from all artistic communities and beyond - both established and aspiring - whether they are painters, designers, sculptors, architects, photographers, poets.... Artists simply submit an application and design template. Please see the artists pages for more information.

How are the designs chosen?

All designs are compiled into one portfolio, then business sponsors can choose a design from the portfolio and the artist will be commissioned to paint and decorate the Superlambanana. No logos or brands are permitted, so business sponsors and artists are challenged to find innovative and creative ways of reflecting or expressing the company's values!

Is Go Superlambananas a charity?

No, Go Superlambananas is an event that has been created by Wild in Art Ltd for the Liverpool Culture Company. At the end of the event, however, the majority of the Superlambananas will be sold at a gala auction and 75% of net proceeds will be donated to the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal.
